Wasted-
Carrie Underwood won “American Idol “in 2005. Her debut CD, “Some Hearts” was also released in 2005. “Wasted” from this CD contains many poetic devices including Simile.
In this song the use of Simile is shown in the line, “It felt like broken glass.” She states that her tears felt like ice so they broke easily.
Another example of Simile shown in the line, “That would be like pouring raindrops back into a cloud.” She states that it’s impossible for her relationship to be fixed.
There is also an example of Imagery in the lines of “Still morning and color of the night. “She states that she doesn’t want to wait forever to get back with her boyfriend.
In conclusion there are a few examples of the uses of Simile and Imagery. This song discusses that Carrie doesn’t want to spend her life wasted and alone. The theme that is discussed in a song like this is being heartbroken. This theme is also used in many different country songs.
